UCT RAG and DASO

Winter has truly arrived at the University of Cape Town. Another bitterly cold Thursday on Jammie Plaza, interspersed with a fair amount of rain, forced today’s event to be moved into the over-crowded Molly Blackburn area.

RAG (Remember and Give), alongside a DASO (Democratic Alliance Student Organisation) stall, hosted the event in the far corner of Molly Blackburn. According to some of the RAG members, the aim of this event was to promote student activism – one of the foremost issues and concerns at an institution once regarded as the liberal hub of South Africa.

“The way I see it, if you want a rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain”. (-Dolly Parton)

No rain or cold wind was going to stop a marching band on Jammie Plaza it seemed.  Despite the fact that the musicians were wearing an African shirt, there were still some great tapping-feet tunes. This was part of the plan to promote that it was Blue Week for UNASA (United Nations Association of SA). Blue flags were waving around, hoping to promote and spread the word about the awareness millennium development.
